..this is one of the many beautiful parks in Amsterdam. If you're not born and raised in this city, Amsterdam is like a treasure map. For the record, I was born in Amsterdam, but raised in a little village called Landsmeer and then moved to Zaandam (which are both very near Amsterdam). Even though I've spent most of my time hanging and working in Amsterdam, it's not the same when you actually live, breath and bike in Amsterdam. The last three years I got the chance to get to know this city in a more intimate way. For many years I roamed through the most common streets of Amsterdam, which are Kalverstraat and Nieuwedijk, and shopping at the most common shops. Then I got introduced to the nine streets (de negen straatjes) which are nine different streets, next to each other, that are famous for its vintage, down-town and cool people having their lunch. Another cool place to be is an area called the 'Oude Pijp'. You have nice little restaurants, shops and even offices. When everyone is on their lunch break or having a day off, a park is the closest thing to get out of the city for a moment. It was pretty hot that day, which meant a lot of people tanning or sitting around with friends. When I say Amsterdam is like a treasure map, I mean when you think you've gone to a dead end, it usually only takes one corner to see so much more of the city. As much as I don't like tourists on a bike (please stop biking in places where it's obvious you are not allowed to ride a bike), I would suggest to still hire a bike, but go with a local, instead of going alone or with a tour guide. So the next time you're in Amsterdam make sure to get lost in places you've never been. Great things come to those who keep looking, right? Sarphatipark is one of those treasures. I spotted schoolkids running around, friends having lunch, people having meetings, people reading books, people letting their dogs out and not that many tourists you see. Now let me show you how much fun I had in the park the other day..
..Today is going to be a good day, I can already feel it. I'm going to have lunch with my dear friend Nöomi and roam around Amsterdam. P.s. I want to thank everyone for the amazing feedback I got from the last few posts and thanks to Charlotte for making such amazing pictures. Make sure you check out her portfolio here..
